Mission

Launched in 2013, our mission is to be the body of Christ, tangible and present, among people in Belfast City Centre.

Belfast City Centre

How it Started

The Chaplaincy was launched in 2013 by a number of organisations coming together to create a partnership that could provide supportive services to the city centre.

The organisations had recognised the need for a new look at how they assist and help people in the city centre as many city centre congregations have fallen in recent times.

Belfast Central Mission, Street Pastors and Urban Soul Café are among the primary partners in this initiative, led by our Lead Chaplain, Rev Andrew Irvine of East Belfast Mission.

How its going

The Chaplaincy has 20 volunteering Chaplains, lay and ordained, who come from a variety of Christian denominations and congregations.

Our Chaplains do not preach, but with sensitivity provide care to people working and living in Belfast City Centre.

Our Chaplains dedicate themselves to an ongoing presence in specific places within the City Centre, building long-term, non-judgmental, listening, relationships in these places.

While we have an ongoing presence on the streets of the City Centre, our Chaplains also take part in operating a helpline to ensure the call is always answered.

Donations

As a charity, we are not-for-profit and operate on a volunteering basis. When donating through Gift Aid, we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give at no extra cost to yourself.

Your donation will help us recruit, train and send more chaplains into the areas of the city where there is the greatest need. It will also help us set up a Hub where people can come to confidentially ‘speak to a chaplain'.
